Groupe Cofel, the French leader in the bedding industry, is renowned for its commitment to quality and innovation. With three highly recognizable brands—Bultex, Mérinos, and Epéda—the group caters to a broad audience, offering everything from entry-level products to luxury bedding. As a fully French manufacturer operating four factories, Groupe Cofel takes pride in its national expertise. However, as the company expanded, it faced increasing challenges in managing its digital assets efficiently across multiple brands and channels.
To address these challenges, Groupe Cofel turned to Wedia, a global leader in Digital Asset Management (DAM) solutions. Wedia specializes in helping businesses streamline asset management, optimize workflows, and enhance collaboration. This strategic move has streamlined the group’s operations, and significantly reduced time-to-market.
We spoke with Sébastien Alexandre, Digital and Information Systems Director at Groupe Cofel. He shared valuable insights into the company's journey with Wedia’s DAM, detailing the challenges they faced, their decision-making process, and the transformative impact Wedia provided with its solution.
As Groupe Cofel grew into a dominant player in the French bedding industry, the scale of operations expanded significantly. Managing a vast array of products became increasingly complex, especially since each product required high-quality visuals for marketing and sales. The added complexity of variations—different colors, dimensions, and uses—led to an overwhelming volume of digital assets. To keep up with our growth, we needed a centralized solution, like Wedia, to streamline workflows and ensure seamless access to these assets.
Before Wedia, we relied on shared network drives and an outdated DAM tool that was no longer maintained. These tools were not designed to handle the scale of our operations, leading to inefficiencies and difficulties in accessing and organizing assets. Additionally, we used platforms like WeTransfer to share files, which proved cumbersome and inadequate for managing our ever-growing library of digital assets.
Our brands do have distinct identities, but their processes for managing visuals and assets were quite similar. This actually made it easier to decide on a common solution. Using Wedia’s DAM helped us eliminate silos and ensure consistency across all brands.
Wedia offered strong interoperability with our existing tools, including Adobe Creative Suite, Magento, and our PIM system. Their commitment to ensuring full functionality before finalizing the deployment really impressed us. It showed their dedication to providing a tailored solution that works seamlessly for our needs.
We followed a classic project management approach, with clear targets and well-defined workflows. While the process wasn’t without challenges, Wedia’s expertise and support ensured a smooth transition. Wedia's team provided hands-on assistance in training our users and tailoring the system to our needs, making the implementation seamless and effective. Overall, it was a structured rollout that set us up for long-term success.
Wedia's DAM is now central to everything we do with assets. All assets are managed exclusively through Wedia, from central management to integration across our websites and e-commerce platforms. Currently, we manage 15,740 assets online, including 13,796 images, 229 videos, and 1,797 documents. With 128 active users across departments, Wedia plays a key role in ensuring consistency and efficiency.
What are the main advantages you have observed with the solution?
The benefits were huge, the key benefits include:
I’d say stick to classic project management principles—define clear goals, communicate them effectively, and allocate enough time for both implementation and user training.
We've encountered some challenges with the Adobe connector, as it currently only allows us to consume media from the DAM. We’re looking forward to fully integrating it across the entire process, enabling us to seamlessly consume media, track documents, and reinsert both the source and final files.
We plan to extend Wedia’s DAM across all our sites and fully eliminate outdated, network-based storage systems. We’re also excited about exploring new features, like Wedia’s ‘Portals’ and ‘Creative Workflow’ feature, which could help us better organize campaign-specific assets and collaborate with external partners.
Groupe Cofel’s adoption of Wedia’s DAM platform has revolutionized their approach to managing, distributing, and optimizing digital assets, providing streamlined operations and setting a new standard for efficiency and collaboration. By centralizing operations and embracing innovative solutions, they have set the stage for continued success in a competitive market. Their journey is an inspiring example for other businesses looking to streamline digital workflows and enhance collaboration across teams.
